How an assessment actually runs

An engagement opens with two parallel tracks. One is conversations: leadership on where the business is going, and the people running the systems on what actually hurts. The other is evidence: we read the codebases, the infrastructure, the invoices, and the incident history, because self-reported architecture and real architecture rarely match. Two to four weeks in, we present what we found, with the awkward parts left in.

The deliverable is a written assessment and a sequenced roadmap: what to fix now, what to plan for, and what to deliberately ignore. Each recommendation carries a cost range and a reason, traceable to something we observed rather than to a framework diagram. We keep the document short enough that people read it. A hundred-page report is a place where recommendations go to hide.

Should you build custom software or buy off the shelf?

Buy, if a mature product covers eighty percent of what you need and your process can flex to fit it; the subscription will be cheaper than custom development for years. Build, when the workflow is genuinely your competitive edge, when the integration costs of an off-the-shelf tool rival building, or when per-seat pricing at your scale exceeds the cost of owning software outright. Most companies need a mix, and where you draw the boundary matters more than the ideology.

We sell custom development, which is exactly why our consulting is priced separately and stands on its own. If the honest answer is a $99-a-month tool, that is the answer you get, in writing. What we add to the decision is a builder's estimate of what custom would truly cost, including the maintenance years that vendors of both kinds tend to leave out of the pitch.

Ways to bring us in

Fixed-price assessments suit decisions with a deadline: an architecture review before scaling, due diligence on an acquisition target, or a second opinion on a vendor's proposal. Ongoing advisory runs as a monthly retainer, typically a few days a month, which suits companies with development teams that occasionally need architectural judgment without hiring a full-time architect. Retainers roll month to month, and canceling is one email.

Some clients later ask us to build what we recommended, and we do take that work, with an important caveat: the roadmap is written so any competent team can execute it, and choosing us for delivery has to survive the same scrutiny we apply to every other vendor. Vendor evaluation works the same way; because we do not resell licenses or take referral fees from platforms, the shortlist you get was not shaped by a commission.

The lens we bring to technology choices

Our recommendations come from operating software, not from analyst reports. We run three SaaS products of our own on React, Next.js, Node.js, Rails, Laravel, PostgreSQL, and Docker across AWS and DigitalOcean, so when we recommend an architecture, we can point at the invoices and incident logs behind the opinion. When the right answer is a technology outside our stack, we say so and help you find people who live in it.

We are biased toward proven tools, toward managed services over self-hosted ones for small teams, and toward architectures a modest team can operate without a specialist on call. We are skeptical of rewrites, which fail more often than they finish, and of adopting new technology for hiring optics. Blockchain advisory is grounded in real EVM and Solidity work, which mostly means we can tell you quickly whether you need it at all.

Why Choose Kodenique for IT Consulting & Strategy

01

Consulting is priced on its own; you can take the roadmap to any vendor, with no obligation to build with us.

02

Advice comes from running three SaaS products in production, so recommendations trace to invoices and incident logs, not analyst decks.

03

We will recommend off-the-shelf software when it fits, even though custom development is what we sell.

04

We take no reseller commissions or referral fees, so every vendor shortlist arrives unshaped by someone else's margin.
